A Butterfly Guy and a bottle of fun!

On July 20th, the third of our Tuesday Evening Speicals, The Butterfly Guy a.k.a. Rick Milula, presented a great program called "2 Liters of fun." Who knew all the varied outcomes that occur when one fashions a couple of liter bottles togeter. Did you know you could make a cool lava lamp? He also gave great tips on bug catching, and gardening! Hey, Rick, you should write a book!

A whale of a tale

Victoria O'Neill stopped by July 13th, the second of our Tuesday evening specials, and brought a story as big as a whale. Everyone who came had a chance to participate. Kids were sailors, pirates, mermaids and more. The entire production was most fishy. It was loads of fun. Afterwards, children created mermaid and shark crafts.

Summer Helpers in full force!

We are lucky to have Hannah Volpert, a rising Junior at Delaware University, back again. No stranger to the library, Hannah worked in our processing department a few years back. Give her a warm welcome!




Congratulations to Michaela McDonald who graduated from Providence College and is searching a full-time job. In the meantime we are lucky to have her back this summer. She is a great asset to the Children's Department. You might also catch her working at the Circulation Desk too! Stop by and say "hey."

If you haven't noticed by now, we are in full swing for summer reading. Take a glance at our storage cabinets above the children's desk. Thanks to Teen Librarian Molly Carroll and her helper Rachel Law for creating the design!! A shout out to the snakeoiler for his great music!

Make a Splash at Radnor Memorial Library This Summer

We want to see more of you this summer!! Therefore we have made some changes. You can still register for the Summer Reading Club on line beginning June 18 at www.radnorlibrary.org. It's easy to keep track of the title and author of your summer reading books and include a review or summary. That has not changed.

But beginning this year, each child who reports a book each week will be entered into a weekly raffle for some of our great prizes.

We will select 12 children. So keep coming each week to report books and maybe you will go home with a prize. Winning names will be posted in the library. That means you have to come to the library to see if you have won!!

Opening Program for Summer Reading Club June 18th 7 p.m.

Over the past few weeks, Miss Carlson, head of Children's Services and Miss Abbe spoke to 1,895 children plus 106 teachers at St.Katharine of Siena School, Agnes Irwin School, and Radnor, Wayne, Ithan Elementary Schools. We explained all about our Summer Reading Club and our special programs.

Join us on June 18 at 7 p.m. for our Opening Program Piccirillo Sciencetelling: Pirates-Curse of the Muting Hand. This fun science program is sponsored by the Radnor Elementary PTO.
This program is suitable for school-aged children. Suggestion donation: $2 per person.

Announcing Summer Reading!!

You may ask why we seem to gear down right before summer. For example, what happened to storytimes in May? Well, we are actually preparing for our busiest season - SUMMER READING CLUB and SCIENCE IN THE SUMMER. We have an exciting summer planned and one way we get the word out is through school visits. Last week we visited Agnes Irwin School. Check out the photo shot by school Librarian Michelle Burns. In case you were wondering, Miss Carlson and Miss Abbe are preforming the Baby Shark song!

BTW, our theme this year is water as in "Make a Splash: Read." Henry Cole was chosen as this years illustrator. Check out his newest book - A Nest for Celeste, his fine book on the naturalist, Joseph Audubon.

Book Talking

Led by Dorothy Carlson, head of Children's Services and assisted by Michaela McDonald, The Summer Reading Book Discussion Club concluded last week after lively discussions on the following books:

Design with Dupont

Two educational representatives from Winterthur Museum came to Radnor on July 21st and brought some design tips. Winterthur, an American country estate in Delaware, is the former property of Henry Francis du Pont (1880-1969). Children were treated to a taste of the palatial manor Mr. du Pont once called home. They were also given a chance to "spend money" and design their own room in a mansion. Original music by Lou Brotman

Swim with the Fishies

Segal Puppet Theater entertained 76 audience members on June 26th as part of our Summer Reading Program. Adults and children were treated to magical fish, fancy frogs, and a fun fish tale with a twist fairy tale ending! Watch a few moments of the show.

On June 12th, Tom Seiling brought his guitar, banjo, drum machine and a whole lot of good fun to Radnor Memorial Library to kick off Sumnmer Reading Club!! Check out the start to our great summer.
