Making a Joyful Noise

Check out these photos from our Making Musical Instruments program on February 16th, funded by an LSTA Grant "All the Seasons of Green," where children made all kinds of noise-makers using everyday household items, like beads, beans, dry macaroni, empty water bottles and milk cartons, old film cases, and paper plates.

Be Quiet, Mike! by Leslie Patricelli (Mike the musically-inclined monkey makes his own drum set.)



Sing, Sophie! by Dayle Ann Dodds (Although no one else in her family likes her loud voice, Sophie's singing soothes her baby brother during a thunderstorm.)



We wrapped up the musical morning with a parade around the room, so the kids could show off their environmentally-friendly cacophany of creativity.

Brain Wash Game Show

In the Brain Wash Game Show, real contestant podiums with flashing lights, digital scoring, and a lightning fast "Lockout System" keep the action going. Paint with the Masters

Wednesday, February 29 @ 2-4 PM

For grades K-5

Materials Cost: $15/child

Parents, enjoy the afternoon off as Color Me Mine joins us for an afternoon of painting pottery at the library. This session will focus on Claude Monet and the Impressionist style of painting. Please register in-person at the library.





Making Music!

Wallaby Tales Traveling Zoo

No need to head to the zoo this weekend... because on Saturday, February 11 at 2:00pm, the Wallaby Tales Traveling Zoo is coming to the Radnor Library! Bring the whole family to see Eyes of the Wild and their amazing, comical, educational live animal show. Suggested donation: $2/person. Call 610-687-1124, ext 41, for more information.

Magic in a Winter Wonderland

This past Saturday was pretty mild, with only a few small scattered corners of snow in the shadows around the Radnor Library... But inside, Magician Steve Woyce inspired imaginations to step into a winter wonderland adventure.

 Every hand in the audience (parents and grandparents were outstanding sports!) formed a snowball and tossed it up front into a magical pan. And then, with one quick movement, the previously empty pan revealed a fully-formed snowman. The giggles took over the room when Steve couldn't find the right magic wand and when he gave his volunteers all kinds of silly tasks and silly props and silly hats. The grand finale was the most delightful surprise... After some entertaining antics, we watched a real rabbit suddenly appear, twitching nose and all!

A Kindermusik Morning

January 13th started out as a typically quiet Friday morning at the Radnor Library... until about 10:30 when the Winsor Room swarmed with an enthusiastic crowd of toddlers, preschoolers, and their caregivers for an hour of musical fun with local Kindermusik instructor Becky Douglas. The jackets and mittens came off and the smiles came on when Miss Becky handed out an assortment of musical instruments perfect for little ones, like wooden sticks and egg shakers.

Even basic household objects became sources of music and movement--Plastic spoons held a beat, scarves created colorful motion, and paper plates became ice skates as the children glided across the carpeted floor.

Miss Becky led action rhymes and dances and kept the energy up with her musical reading of Cows in the Kitchen by June Crebbin.

Monkeys in the House - The Radnor Library House

John Hadfield had a few tricks up his sleeve when he brought a barrel of monkey laughs to Radnor Memorial Library on Oct. 15th. More than 100 children and adults were treated to his singing, dancing, jokes, juggling and magic act. Thanks John!

Asia @Radnor Library

Next week "It's a small world" program ends when we present a program on South Africa. Below are videos on India and China. Thanks to adults Sandhya Taghavi, Shobba Sharma and Theji Brennan along with kids: Sunny Taghavi, Shanti and Tara Hug and Kiran and Kai Brennan, Arav and Niva Menon who described aspects of India.The group was treated to tasty snacks, viewed a fashion show and learned many interesting facts about the country.



We also presented a program on China led by Fred Young, his wife Susan Moy and their son Carter Young. Special thanks to the dancers from the Chinese Language and Cultural Summer Camp Center who entertained the group with traditional dancing.

Juggling, Magic, Tricks and more on July 21st!

Flow Circus comes to the Radnor Library on Thursday, July 21 @ 7 p.m. Experience amazing juggling skills, mystifying magic and comic timing!

Marionettes make merry at Radnor Library

Miss Penny brought her Marionettes and puppet show to Radnor Library June 23 to the delight of the audience. Good old fashioned fun was had by all. Miss Penny demonstrated how to make puppets out of ordinary household objects. Check out our video!

Daria came to Radnor Library and brought lots of musical instruments

We had the best time with Daria on June 17. Our kickoff Summer Reading program was filled with international instruments and great songs from around the world. Daria also brought homemade musical instruments for audience members to try along with instruments such as a donkey's jaw bone, among others! She brought her friend Tony who played the drums! Thanks to Teen Librarian, Molly Carroll, for her wonderful pictures.

Don't get tangled up come to Fun on a String

You are invited to witness Marionette Fun Thursday at Radnor Library!!!

The Fun on a String performances incorporate hand puppets, hand-and-rod puppets, marionettes, and object theatre. The various puppets are combined into a variety show, which encourages audience participation. A brief introduction about the art of puppetry leads into a demonstration of how to make puppets from everyday household materials.

Big Happenings at the Library this Summer

A Movin' and A Grovin'

Turtles in the library Saturday, February 12th @ 2 p.m.

Steve Woyce, is not just a magician, who thrilled Radnor community members with his wizardry, but his is a turtle expert as well. He will bring his vast knowledge as well as a variety of turtles to the library, Saturday, February 12 @ 2 p.m. in the Winsor Room. Meet a variety of live turtles and tortoises. Learn how and where turtles live, eat, hibernate, and more! Great for families. No registration.

What can you find in your backyard?

Rachel Ndeto from Tyler Arboretum presented Discoveries in your Backyard on January 22. Children learned to identify various animal tracks found in the area, the proper term for deer poop (scat) and which animals hibernate. Of course, Miss Carlson read before the program. The hour-long event concluded with a make and take craft.

If you think children as young as 2 1/2, who don't speak Spanish can comprehend a storytime spoken entirely in Spanish, you would be surprised. Marcela Summerville, always entertaining and educational knows the importance of early literacy, particularly, speaking a variety of languages and how to make it fun.



Marcella Summerville, of Spanish Workshop for Children, was exuberant in her telling of Los Tres Osos (The Three Bears. She will be here for one more session on Wednesday, January 26 @10:30 a.m. We can't wait. Check out our video to see why!!
