sing-a-long Mondays at the library

Join us Mondays at noon for a good old-fashioned Sing-a-long on our front porch (Wendy's Porch). If the weather is uncooperative such as oppressive heat - we will move indoors to our storytent in the children's department.

This sing-a-long is for adults too! Ray Verna is our special guest!

book list from NPR guest

This morning I heard children's author Lesley Blume interviewed on NPR. Click Here for her classic list of must-read Children's Books and then listen to why she believes these are classics! BTW, Radnor Children's Department has all of the books on the list.

Video Club

Emily Han, our star video club student, wrote, directed and narrated this awesome video on the Philadelphia Zoo! Great job Emily! Original music provided by Krista Parrish

Book and Craft - La Fin

We sure did have fun with our Book and Craft Program which concluded last week. Thanks to our tremendous volunteer Rachael and staff members Maureen and Michaela for their creative ideas!

Abracadabra!!!!!!!!!

A great turnout on July 28 for our own page and Radnor High School student, Ian Monaco who made magic with his group "Magicaleo." He was joined by Junior Dave Corenswet and Sophmore Leo Koorhan. The trio performed awesome tricks, gave some secrets away, and a great time was had by all!

A special thanks to Erick Hershey, local resident and magician, for taking the old adage, "the show must go on" to heart!

So Long Uke Band

Two of our most enthuastic Uke Band members, Gus and Finn Ryan came to our last Uke band class attired as Don Ho Hawaiian Ukulele player! Loved having you guys in Uke Band!

Book Talking

Led by Dorothy Carlson, head of Children's Services and assisted by Michaela McDonald, The Summer Reading Book Discussion Club concluded last week after lively discussions on the following books:

Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis,

2009 Carolyn W. Field award

And the winner is...

"The Boy Who Dared" by Susan Campbell Bartoletti

Bartoletti's tale involves a young boy with enormous courage who stands up his beliefs, despite the fact that the consequences might be fatal. It is powerfully written, but not too graphic in light of the harsh subject matter of the Holocaust.

Honor books are:

"Fearless" by Elvira Woodruff
"Life is Fine" by Allison Whittenberg
"Titanicat" illustrated by Robert Papp
"Willie and the All-Stars" by Floyd Cooper

This award honors the best children’s book by a Pennsylvania author or illustrator. It was established in 1983 by the Youth Services Division of the Pennsylvania Library Association. Carolyn Wicker Field retired in 1983 from the Free Library of Philadelphia where she served as Coordinator of Work with Children for 30 years.
